Imphal, May 06 2026:
Marking three years since they went missing on May 6, 2023, floral tributes were offered before the memorial stones of Atom Samarendra and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar at Imphal West Students Club (IWSC) Complex in Khumbong this evening.
Family members, locals of Khumbong, IWSC members and representatives of Khelen Thokchom Trust were present to pay their respects to the two men who have remained untraceable after missing from Olympic Park near Sangaithel three years ago.
Speaking at the memorial event, IWSC advisor Atom Meghajit said as per the law of the land, death certificates may be issued only after the person has been missing for at least seven years, which is still four years away in the case of Atom Samarendra and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar.

Emphasizing the struggles of the bereaved families, he urged the authorities to issue the death certificates so that the families may receive their due compensations from the Government.
Between the two missing men, five children have been left without their father - two boys in the case of Atom Samarendra and one girl and two boys for Yumkhaibam Kirankumar.
The IWSC advisor continued to express discontent with the authorities, stating that though the duo's vehicle was traced to Noney after they went missing, the police was unable to take any action.
He further claimed the car has now been repainted and used again in Churachandpur.
The demands made to the Government of that time have remained unfulfilled.
They merely asked the families to a dialogue but failed to take concrete steps to trace the whereabouts of the two missing men.
In view of such prolonged uncertainty, Atom Meghajit has urged Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to uncover the truth about the disappearance of the two men.
He further drew the Government's attention to the plight of similar families whose loved ones have gone missing during the conflict to be never heard from again.
He expressed grief over the State leaders' preoccupation with guarding their positions/seats instead of being empathetic to the suffering of such families.
