PM likely a sociopath, HM mythomaniac: Cong
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 06 2025: While expressing suspicions that the prime minister may be a sociopath and the union home minister suffering from mythomania, along with opining that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state leaders including the former CM could be suffering from mental health issues, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice president Hareshwar Goswami has advised these leaders to focus on mitigating sufferings of the people even if they are going insane due to having no hold of the government.

In a press meet held at Congress Bhawan on Sunday, Hareshwar said that the two-year long conflict has displaced thousands of people forcing many to still languish in relief camps, amid sporadic reports of significant number of the displaced persons taking the extreme step unable to bear the distressful condition.

However, the PM continues to feign ignorance on the issue, clearly hinting that he is a sociopath, Hareshwar claimed.

Meanwhile, union home minister Amit Shah has been making contradictory statements about the conflict, showing his hypocrisy and indicating that he is suffering from mythomania.

While the efforts being made to resettle the IDPs by December this year is appreciated, the move seems calculative on the part of the BJP, especially with the looming elections, he remarked.

Reflecting on statements made by former CM N Biren during a function held at Thambal Shanglen, Goswami said that it is unbecoming of someone of his (CM) stature to make such irresponsible statements.

He (Goswami) continued that the emergency declared during the Indo-China War 1962, Indo-Pakistan War 1971, and the internal disturbance from 1975 to 1977, was done accordingly under Article 352 of the Constitution.

The vice president continued that the then PM Indira Gandhi had no intention to cling on to power as was evident from conduct of 6th Lok Sabha election in 1977 after the Emergency was lifted.

Although there were disagreements over the Emergency, Janata Party secured 295 votes and INC 154 votes in the election.

The coalition government formed by Janata Party elected Morarji Desai as the PM.

However, the govern ment collapsed within three years and the 7th Lok Sabha election was held in 1980, where INC won 353 out of 529 seats and Janata party secured 42 seats.

INC went on to form the government in respect of the people's mandate.

At the time, Janata party worker Narendra Modi became an absconded fugitive.

Even leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru never choose to abscond.

Modi absconded because he did something against the law, Goswami said, adding that all of the claims made by BJP against the then Congress leaders are fictitious and malicious.

The MPCC VP then said that there is no one like the former CM who could blatantly lie that a popular government would be formed soon and normalcy had been restored in the state even before the President's Rule was imposed.

It is becoming difficult to trust his words, he remarked.

"While a new government would be good, if it bears any resemblance to the last government, the suffering would continue.

However, if normalcy had been restored in the state, why did the CM resigned? Which government was at fault as claimed by the ex-CM? Why did his government of seven years failed to correct the mistakes of the so-called faults of the previous government?" the MPCC VP questioned, while reminding the former CM that he was in power for seven years before the imposition of President's Rule.

Goswami also questioned during whose term AFSPA was imposed in the state, while reminding that the Congress government had seen to the withdrawal of the Act from Greater Imphal area in 2004.During BJP's tenure, the Act was withdrawn from areas under 19 police stations but re-imposed in areas covered by six police stations.

If BJP continues to stay, AFSPA could be re-imposed in the whole of Manipur, he maintained.

Urging BJP spokespersons to stop playing the blame game to gain political mileage, vice president Hareshwar said that the people are no longer interested in political mudslinging.

Even if the BJP is in a state of delirium owing to losing their grip on power and government, the saffron party should focus on what could be done to alleviate the suffering of the people, he stressed.
