Imphal, November 30 2024:
Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan emphasised the need to identify and weed out disruptive elements within the community during his visit to the relief camp at Tombisana High School campus, Khoyathong, Imphal, on Saturday.
The camp is being run by the Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TKDO), where the MLA distributed blankets and pillows procured with fund donated by residents of his constituency.
Speaking on the worsening law and order situation, Joykisan highlighted growing insecurity even in highly guarded locations such as army camps and the residences of MLAs and ministers.
If such places are unsafe, how can the public feel secure, he questioned.
While acknowledging the calls for unity and coordination, he pointed out the presence of "black sheeps" within the community, stressing the need to weed them out to ensure progress and harmony.
The MLA categorised society into two groups amidst the ongoing crisis: those who are selflessly working for the welfare of the state and those exploiting the situation for personal gains.
He lauded village volunteers for stepping up where the government and elected representatives failed to ensure public safety.
The emergence of village volunteers shows the gap left by the government in providing full security for the people, he said.
However, Joykisan criticised the second group, accusing them of intimidating the public for personal benefits and undermining the efforts to build unity.
He labelled such individuals as public enemies and attributed the vandalism of the altar of Lainingthou Sanamahi in his home to these opportunistic elements.
The individuals responsible for such acts are the ones obstructing unity.
They must be held accountable, Joykisan asserted.
He continued that police possess photo and video evidence of those involved in the altar vandalism but lamented the inability to arrests them so far.
To encourage action, he announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the police team that apprehends the perpetrators.
Joykisan urged the public to remain vigilant and committed to fostering unity while addressing those who exploit crises for selfish motives.
This is the time to stand together and act decisively against those who threaten our collective efforts for peace and security, he concluded.
