Imphal, July 26 2025:
In a bid to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the ongoing crisis in the state, the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, in collaboration with Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited (MHHDC), is providing skill development training and product buyback support for IDPs.
Handloom and textiles director E Jiten, who is also the managing director of MHHDC, made the announcement at the closing ceremony of a 20-day Kauna craft training held at the relief camp at Thangjing Guest House in Moirang on Friday.
A total of 20 IDPs participated in the training programme.
Speaking at the event, Jiten informed that the initiative is part of a series of ongoing training programmes in the handloom and handicrafts sector aimed at facilitating sustainable income for displaced individuals.
He said that priority is given to persons who show potential, interest and talent in traditional crafts, and that master trainers conducting the sessions are award-winning artisans themselves.
He said that the Corporation is actively supporting trainees by buying back the products they make and marketing them through its established channels.
However, he admitted that not all products could be sold, and advised the trainees to understand market demands and tailor their craft accordingly to ensure better sales.
Jiten also encouraged the artisans to independently sell their products if they have the means or necessary connections, and assured that the Corporation will continue to extend marketing support to help them sustain their livelihoods.
