Imphal, March 25 2026:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has warned the Government that conducting a census and delimitation before addressing the issue of illegal immigrants will be seen as an act against the people of Manipur.
AMSU organisation secretary Huidrom Punsiba stated that the influx of "outsiders" is threatening the indigenous population, and the Government must take actions to save the indigenous people.
AMSU's 46th Realisation Month, themed "Realise to Save the Indigenous Peoples of Manipur", continued today with academic campaigns at South Point English School of Sciences, Lilong Chajing, and Imphal Public School, Canchipur, spreading awareness on preserving indigenous heritage.
During the campaign, Punsiba pointed out that the 2011 census report already showed a significant influx of outsiders in Manipur.
He expressed fear regarding the potential number of non-locals by the time the 2026 census arrives.
AMSU feels the Government's plan to conduct a census and delimitation before addressing illegal immigration is against the people's interest, said Punsiba, urging the Government to reconsider its stance and prioritize protecting Manipur's indigenous population.
Punsiba slammed successive Governments for ignoring AMSU's longstanding demand to remove outsiders, saying they are disregarding the people's will.
He urged public leaders to wake up and take action.
The events were also attended by the founder principal of IPS, Canchipur, Ashem Kenedy, and the headmaster in charge of South Point English School of Sciences, Bimpl Thounaojam, along with many students.
