'Joseph ki Macha' to premiere at Kolkata event

After its world premiere at the 25th Sanghai International Film Festival, Haobam Paban Kumar's third narrative - "Joseph ki Macha (Joseph's Son) will figure in the Indian Premiere at the 29th Kolkata International Film festival - 2023 .
Penned by Sahitya Akademi awardee Sudhir Naoroibam, "Joseph ki Macha" received rave reviews at national and international film events.
The film has been selected for premiere at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival 2023 to be held from December 5 to 12, and at the 28th International Film Festival of Kerala 2023 in the Indian Cinema Now section.
The him based on communal conflict and insurgency problems in the state tells the story of a boy gone missing.
His father Joseph sets out in search of his football enthusiast son.
As Joseph travels, his fear grows deeper: a fear of constant uncertainty- past and present - to which a personal vacuum is added when he is asked to verify the unidentified body in the morgue by the police.
It is a journey that no parent would like to ever take.
Screenplay by Sudhir and Paban Kumar, the film is produced by NFDC and Oil Pictures, cinematography by Joydip Bose, sound by Sukanta Majumdar, art direction by Ch Inaocha and casting by Victor Thoudam.
Award winner folk singer Rewben Mashangva is the main protagonist of the him, which is being produced in different dialects including Meiteilon, Tangkhul, Thadou-Kuki and Rongmei.
Speaking to this daily, Haobam Paban opined that the him could be the first feature him in India based on communal violence and insurgency problems in Manipur.
The film tries to portray the actual issues and problems faced by the people of Manipur at present.
Paban Kumar is a prominent voice in restive Manipur, dabbling in both non-fiction and fiction storytelling.
His film 'AFSPA 1958' was awarded the Golden Lotus for the Best Documentary at the 56th National Film Awards 2008 .
'A Cry In The Dark' is another of his him screened at the 31st Toronto Film Festival 2006 and MOMA New York 2007.His critically acclaimed feature him Loktak Lairembee (Lady of the Lake) also figured at the 67th Berlin Film Festival 2017 and 21st Busan International Film Festival 2016.Paban's second narrative feature in Manipuri and Tangkhul language 'Nine Hills One Valley' had its world premiere at Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival in Indonesia.
