Imphal, August 16 2025:
Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur (RNCM-NTL) has cautioned against recent actions which it described as a direct threat to the security and safety of Naga community in the region.
In a statement issued on Saturday, RNCM-NTL said that during the Naga Independence Day celebrations at Rasuan Kaiphwndai-zaeng on August 14, a formal application was submitted to the Governor by Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of Kuki tribe, opposing the event.
The Council termed this as a deliberate attempt to interfere with the cultural and political rights of Naga people.
It further stated that on August 15 at around 10:30 pm, armed assailants of Kuki militants opened gunfire targeting Naga residents in Kaiphwndaizaeng village.
RNCM-NTL said that the attack endangered civilian lives and constituted a direct assault on the community.
According to the statement, the two incidents, taking place in close succession, represented a pattern of provocation and aggression that posed a serious threat to the safety of the Naga people.
Warning categorically that such hostile actions would not be tolerated, the Council said: "if provocations and violent incidents continued, the council would be compelled to take all necessary protective measures to ensure the survival and security of the community." RNCM-NTL further said that the notification should be taken as a stern warning against any further hostile actions.
