Congress' Bharat Nyay Yatra to begin from Imphal

Imphal, December 27 2023: The Congress party on Wednesday announced that party leader and MP Rahul Gandhi will lead the Bharat Nyay Yatra from Imphal to Mumbai from January 14 to March 20 .

Sharing details to media persons at Congress Bhawan here, Manipur Pradesh Congress Party (MPCC) president K Meghachandra said that the Bharat Nyay Yatra as announced byAICC will be flagged off from Imphal on January 14.The Yatra (East to West) will cover 6,200 km across 14 states and 85 districts before culminating at Mumbai on March 20 .

AICC president Malikarjun Kharge will flag off the Yatra and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will take part the Yatra from the beginning till the end.

The Yatra will be foot march though uninhabited areas will be covered by bus, he added.

Apart from appealing to all sections of people to take part in the Yatra, Meghachandra said it is being organised with the main objective to deliver justice to the suffering people of the country.

He contended that people across the country are facing the brunt of BJP's divide and rule policy and anti-democratic decisions.

According to the MPCC president, the state government celebrated 'Good Governance Day' on Christmas day to commemorate the birth anniversary of late PM Atal Behari Vajpayee.

However, the celebration joined by chief minister N Biren maligned to Vajpayee's reputation as it is questionable if the state government had been able to practice good governance or if the celebration was a meaningful One.

It has been nearly eight months that state and national highways in Manipur sector remain unsafe and ban on internet was lifted only recently, he said and asked if good governance implies that people from the majority community in the state are still unable to move freely on national highways.

According to K Meghachandra, people abandoned their home and hearth due to the violence since May 3 and are still unable to return back to their homes.

Moreover, providing the displaced persons only Rs 200 each in the form of distribution of pension cards sums up the ground reality, he maintained.

The state chief of the Congress also alleged that inability to resume inter-district passenger bus service of Manipur State Transport underscored weakness of the government.

While stating that there is no sign of improvement of nearly eight months violence and firing still continues, Meghachandra asked the government particularly CM and cabinet ministers as to when will the violence stop and peace and normalcy restored in the state.

He further alleged that it is not a step to bring back peace when government gives assurances but could not translate the same into action.

Meanwhile, while welcoming the naming of a war ship of the country's navy as 'Imphal', the MPCC president opined that state government should have accorded importance on welfare of displaced people rather than organising a mega event for the INS Imphal.

He then urged PM Modi to at-least acknowledge hardships besetting people of Manipur and make efforts to end the crisis rather than waiting for election.

On the other hand, the MPCC president informed media persons that MPCC has prepared an affidavit for submission to the Commission of Enquiry set up to probe violence in Manipur.
