Governor visits CCpur, reviews development initiatives, security

For the second time after his appointment to the post, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited Churachandpur on Tuesday and reviewed overall development initiatives and security measures in the district.
Upon arrival, the Governor was received by deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) of Churachandpur district as well as other civil and security officials.
Immediately after reaching the district headquarters, the Governor along with First Lady visited pre-fabricated resettlement camp at New Zalenphai and met the internally displaced persons (IDPs) .
He inaugurated a Creche Centre and distributed mattresses and edibles to displaced persons including children.
The Governor also felicitated two students who cracked NEET-2025 along with other meritorious students from the camp and wished them success in future.

Leaders of Kuki Students' Organisation and village chiefs submitted separate memoranda to the Governor and requested construction of a multipurpose hall in the area.
Later, the Governor visited the DC's office, where he chaired interactive sessions with MLAs, representatives of civil society organisations and student leaders.
After the interactive session, representatives of Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) submitted a memorandum to the Governor highlighting a wide range of issues in education, connectivity, governance and others.
The memorandum requested the Governor for taking up appropriate measures for the welfare of the people.
Leaders of the Zomi Council also interacted with the Governor and raised their concerns regarding resettlement of displaced persons and their welfare measures.
They also highlighted their grievances and urged the Governor for taking up necessary steps.
The Governor acknowledged their concerns and heard their grievances.
In the afternoon, the Governor reviewed overall security situation in the district at 27 Sector AR headquarters, wherein 27 Sector AR commander Brigadier S Prashanth gave a detailed presentation.
Director General Assam Rifles Lt General Vikas Lakhera, IG AR (S) Maj General Ravroop Singh, IGP Kabib K and other police and military officers attended the meeting.
In the evening, Governor visited Geljang resort to witness its scenic beauty.
The Governor was welcomed by Geljang village chief and witnessed a spectacular Mizo traditional dance.
The Governor will hold the night at the guest house of 27 Sector Assam Rifle headquarters.
During their meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the DC's office, KZC representatives presented a set of public grievances and demands concerning Kuki-Zo inhabited areas including the contentious road linking Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, as well as the bridge over the Imphal River in the adjoining area of Kakching and Chandel district.
According to a statement of KZC, it placed before the Governor 16 key issues, including urgent upgrade of electricity capacity in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, repair of local roads across Kuki-Zo districts, and concerns over landslides along the Tipaimukh road.
The delegation also sought development of road links between Churachandpur, Chandel and Kangpokpi, as well as rectification of anomalies in the jurisdiction of district transport, police and land revenue offices.
Other points raised included the appointment of a neutral advocate general, posting of a neutral deputy commissioner in Chandel, establishment of a Manipur Public Service Commission examination centre in Kuki-Zo districts, clearance of pending student scholarships, and salary arrears of more than 10 months for staff of Moreh College and SEMCO College in Tengnoupal and Chandel districts.
KZC further pressed for better healthcare facilities in Moreh, improved reliability of helicopter services in the hill districts, and the construction of a bridge over the Imphal River in Chandel.
Governor AK Bhalla noted the issues presented and assured the delegation that he would look into them with priority.
KZC expressed gratitude to the governor for hearing their concerns and to the Churachandpur DC for facilitating the meeting.
Later in the day, KZC cabinet paid a courtesy call to the Director General of Assam Rifles at the 27 Sector Headquarters in Tuibuong, where matters relating to security and stability in Kuki-Zo areas were discussed, the statement added.
