AR, villagers discuss border development and monsoon preparedness in Chandel

Chandel, July 16 2026:
Assam Rifles organised a civil-military coordination meeting at L Thinglhangphai villagein Chandel district on July 15 to strengthen cooperation with local communities and promote regional stability and development.
According to a release issued by the IGAR (South), the meeting brought together security officials and around 20 stakeholders, including village chiefs, secretaries, community leaders and youth representatives from L Thinglhangphai, Ch Molhem, V Haipijang, Y Thingkangphai, K Phallen and Vangkho.
The extensive discussions focused heavily on monsoon preparedness, establishing robust mechanisms to tackle weather-related disruptions to road connectivity and ensuring an uninterrupted logistics supply of daily essentials, medicines and groceries to remote pockets.
The meeting also reviewed the prevailing security situation, with participants acknowledging the improvement in the ground situation and reaffirming their collective commitment to maintaining lasting peace in the region.
Emphasising youth welfare, the platform prioritised the early resumption of educational institutions.
To facilitate this immediately, plans were proposed to relocate the Temporary Operating Base from local school premises to an alternative site, complemented by an upcoming stationery distribution drive.
The meeting further prioritised restoration of damaged power transmission lines, installation of a reverse osmosis drinking water plant at L Thinglhangphai, and a community plantation drive as part of efforts to promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life in the area.
