CCpur receives more vaccines; alert in Chandel

Churachandpur district veterinary officer Veithienneng has expressed gratitude to higher authorities of the department for despatching more anti-rabies vaccine to Churachandpur.
According to Veithienneng, the department is now poised to deal with the situation following the arrival of more anti-rabies vaccine on Monday and thanked higher authorities for taking care and concern of the people.
Updating on measures initiated by the department so far in dealing with the situation after the outbreak of rabies in the district, Veithienneng informed that QRTs have been sent to five different localities namely, Vaalveng, Ngathal, Hmar Veng, Zoumun Nuam and Zenhang Lamka.
She also said that district Veterinary department has so far vaccinated 4,469 dogs.
Meanwhile, in response to surge in rabies-related cases in neighbouring districts, Chandel district administration on Monday issued a public notice mandating urgent preventive measures to avert potential epidemic.
The notice, issued under Section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, called for immediate action including vaccination of pets and control of stray animals.
According to the order, all stray dogs and cats within Chandel district shall be captured and either vaccinated or humanely removed from public spaces, in line with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.Pet owners are required to ensure that their dogs and cats are vaccinated against rabies without delay.
The district veterinary office will mobilise Quick Response Teams (QRTs) for a mass vaccination campaign.
The notice also restricted the movement of unvaccinated animals and warned that individuals or groups failing to comply with vaccination requirements or engaging in illegal animal trafficking will face penalties and legal action under the Epidemic Diseases Act and other applicable laws.
The District Veterinary office, in collaboration with health authorities, will launch an awareness drive to educate the public on rabies prevention, vaccination, and the need for prompt medical care following animal bites.
It also urged the public to report suspected rabies cases and animal bites immediately and to seek treatment at the nearest government health facility.
