Imphal, March 22 2025:
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of a 9-year-old minor girl, whose lifeless body was found on Thursday around 11:30 pm at Lingsiphai, Lanva TD Block of Churachandpur district.
Condemning the murder, MCPCR chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar, in a statement, stated that the most painful fact is that the minor girl was an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) studying in Class II, taking shelter in a relief camp with a benign hope of safety and security.
Pradipkumar highlighted that many such horrific incidents, including missing, abduction, and brutal murder of innocent children and young ones, have occurred amid the two-year-long violent situation in the state.
"Innocent children should never be targeted, as they do not know anything about the ethnic conflict or any political demand," he stated, adding that children deserve immunity and protection from every sensible individual, group, or community, respecting the pure conscience of humanity apart from international conventions and legal standards applicable during conflict situations.
The MCPCR chairperson further appealed to all concerned to protect and ensure the safety of children in the state, in any context and wherever they are found and also informed that the commission will take up suo moto cognizance of the incident to pursue the necessary legal course of action.
