Imphal, August 18 2010:
A case of an alleged fake encounter surfaced when family members of one of the victims clarified that the victim was picked up by police commandos on his way to Imphal on Tuesday morning.
Mention may be made that Thoubal police commandos killed two persons in what they claimed to be an encounter yesterday evening, at about 6.50 pm, at Sarik Konjil under Waikhong police station.
They also claimed the recovery of one AK-56 rifle, a 9 mm pistol loaded with live rounds and two hand grenades from the
slain suspects.
The identity of one of the slain persons was established today as Moirangthem Tombi (56), a resident of Sarik Konjil.
The identity of the other person is yet to be established.
Local source said that the deceased Tombi went out around 7 am yesterday saying that he was leaving for Imphal and on way he won of call upon to his ailing married daughter.
He was a farmer.
Police commandos picked him up on his way, the source said.
The two dead bodies are still lying at the RIMS morgue.
