Imphal, August 18 2010:
Offering of floral tributes and renewed pledge to sustain the ongoing armed movement till achievement of the cherished goal marked 'Athoubasinggi Ningsing Numit' today, said a statement issued by the proscribed KYKL.
The statement issued by its deputy secretary of publicity and Research, Apabi Mangang recounted that the annual observance is being held to commemorate the sacrifices made by three of its cadres following a shoot-out against a combined security force team at a Kha-Potsangbam paddy field on this day in 1993 .
The KYKL trio namely Cpl Thounaojam Brojen of Lamding Cherapur, Pvt Salam Ito of Kha Potsangbam and Pvt Ningthoujam Basanta also from Kha Potsangbam engaged a large column of joint security team in a fierce battle, recounted Apabi while adding that inspite of being out-numbered and with least fire-power, the three did not cow down to the security onslaught.
Rather than allow the security personnel arrest and force them to extract vital information, Brojen, Ito and Basanta committed suicide thereby protecting the organisation's classified information, the KYKL statement maintained.
Sacrifices made by the three is not only an important message to insurgent groups but also demonstrates their commitment to the cause of waging a war against the Indian union, Apabi opined and asserted that commemorating the trio's never-say-die spirit had been the guiding principle for the KYKL in sustaining the armed movement.
The observance has become even more significant at the present juncture for there are some armed outfits that pose as revolutionary groups but whose activities undoubtedly testify that the agenda is self-centric and amassing personal wealth, Apabi cautioned.
