A workshop on Maring Tradition and Culture which would be held for 45-day starting from today commenced at Sandang Senba Maring village in Senapati district.
The workshop was organised by the Khengjong Lang, Imphal in collaboration with Karimkhu Kanthou Culture Literary, Sandang Senba village under the sponsorship of the National School of Drama, New Delhi.
Prof N Tombi, vice chairman of the NJ Dance Academy, Imphal graced the function as chief guest which was presided over by director of art and culture, Ksh Sorojini.
Chief of Sandang Senba Maring village attended as guest of honour.
Prof N Tombi, speaking as chief guest, said that preservation and conservation of culture of each and every community and tribe will bring harmony among the people.
To preserve and works for upliftment of culture with a concerted efforts of all section of the society is a must for harmonic living in the state where various different communities are residing together since time immemorial.
Everybody needs to know culture and tradition of others communities living together in a society.
Likewise, people of other communities need to know the Maring culture having its own aged old culture and tradition, Tombi said.
He further said, theatre is made by a collection of people.
It is a high level art form.
It is utmost important to organise workshops and discussions for the people doing theatre so as they can suit themselves with the changing time.
The workshop will benefit the villagers of Sandung Senba village.
Director of art and culture, Ksh Sorojini who presided over the function said that it is an encouraging one to hold such a workshop related with culture and tradition at Sandung Senba Maring village observing it will help in exploring the traditional culture of the tribe.
On the occasion, the director of the workshop, Dr S Thaniliema elaborately talked on the reason behind the holding of the workshop at the village.
The function was marked by presentation of War Dance of the Maring tribe.
