A high level meeting was convened today by the Chief Minister at his office chamber to discuss the finer aspects of the plan to instal Closed Circuit Televisions at strategic locations in Imphal.
The plan was envisaged to monitor and detect any acts of subversion and movement of suspicious characters, especially in the backdrop of the repeated attacks at the official residence of the Chief Minister and the car bomb which was found parked comfortably inside the campus of the Raj Bhawan, some time back.
Apart from the Chief Minister, the others who were present at the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, DGP Y Joykumar and key officials from the Finance Department and Home Department.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, a source said that the Chief Minister is understood to have aired his thoughts on working out the number of CCTVs to be installed at strategic places of Imphal, after a thorough inspection of the sites as well as an update on the price of the gadget.
Though no final decision was taken, those present at the meeting favoured a Bangalore based firm, M/S Meltronics System Tech, to supply the said gadgets.
The possibility of inviting representatives from the said firm to demonstrate the efficacy of their products was also discussed during the meeting.
A meeting between the State Government led by the Chief Minister and representatives from the firm is likely to be held on August 20, informed the source further.
The fund earmarked for installing the said CCTVs is around Rs 8 crores, said the source and the number of CCTVs to be bought has been tentatively fixed a little above 150 .
The State Police Department will be in charge of the project.
Among the prominent places, where the CCTVs are to be installed include the Raj Bhawan, the CM's official residence and strategic points in the heart of the Imphal.
During the tentatively scheduled meeting, representatives from M/S Meltronics System Tech are likely to make a presentation of the functioning of their product as well as their efficacy.
