Imphal, August 18 2010:
The 7th foundation day of the Meitei Eyek Erol Loinashillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) was celebrated with a function held at GM Hall, Imphal today.
The titular king of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba was the chief guest of the celebration function presided over by the president of the MEELAL, M Nongdalenkhomba.
In his speech as chief guest observed that the campaign for revival of the indigenous Meitei Mayek script launching by the MEELAL can be said as successful now but it doesn't mean that the campaign is going on without hindrance.
Odds and hindrances are still ahead of the MEELAL in the campaign in reviving the script.
The struggle ahead of MEELAL is marching towards a crucial stage.
At this point of time, it would not be right one to leave the responsibility to MEELAL alone.
A concerted effort is needed, Sanajaoba said appealing people of all works to extend corporation with the MEELAL.
MEELAL president Nonglenkhomba said that it has been already 30 year completed since government recognized the Meitei Mayek script but many people are still ignorance of the script.
It is an unfortunate thing.
It is nothing to teach the script.
It will hardly take three day to teach the script and know.
The only thing is to give keen interest.
Without giving interest, it will not be possible to succeed in any works of life, he said.
The president further said that in the campaign for revival of the script and use by the mass, the support of the government is a must.
Even though, Indian Constitution has a room for development of each and every language and their scripts.
But government is performing its duty, he lamented.
The chief guest of the function, Sanajaoba lighted the inaugural lamp of the celebration function.
He also released a souvenir of MEELAL, an audio cassette and a book in Meitei Mayek script entitled "Angangi Khutyek Lairik" and written Ibohal Thoudam.
A token of honour were also presented to the well wishers and reporters.
