As in other parts of the country, Ukhrul celebrated the 64th India Independence Day at Pakshi ground, Hundung, reports our correspondent.
Ninety nine march past contingents of students, NCC, Army and State security forces, five selective cultural dance troupes took part in the celebration attracting a huge turnout.
The celebrations began at 8:30 am with a cheerful glare and crammed gallery of the stadium that have been recently laid foundation stone by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Ukhrul public, civil society organizations, intellectuals, district level officers collectively extended full co-operation to the district administration for the first time in the district in celebrating Independence Day.
Deputy Commissioner N Ashok Kumar graced the occasion as chief guest and unfurled the National flag and also inspected the march past contingents.
He also addressed the gathering and thanked all the participants especially the students coming from various schools of the district.
Later, a friendly football match was played between DC XI and TNL XI .
