Under the objective of arming the State farmers with the best available equipment for enhanced productivity, knap-sack sprayer pumps and high yielding seeds were distributed to hill district farmers at the Keishampat Junction office of National identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) today.
In all 60 farmers from different hill districts were provided sprayer pumps, pea seeds and pusa variety of early hybrid maize seeds in the presence of Superintending Engineer (Agriculture) K Manoranjan and National identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) president Khupler Kom as the chief guest and president respectively.
pointing out that Agriculture Department had taken up various programmes for spurt in agricultural growth in the State, Manoranjan stressed on constant coordination and sharing of information between the farmers and the Department so as to ensure food security.
National identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) advisor Y Nabachandra, in his address, confided that for agricultural development in the hill areas a survey concentrated in remote and backward areas was conducted after which it was decided to extend assistance in the form of distribution of farmers' kits and high yielding variety seeds.
Cotton Development Officer of Agriculture Department, L Ibomcha, who was also present at the occasion called upon the farmers to adopt scientific method of agriculture as new technology are being used these days to meet ever growing demand of food crops/grains.
L Ibomcha also disclosed that the department has enough stock of agriculture equipment and seeds for distribution to the farmers in phased manner.
Pointing out that agricultural activities confined only to the valley areas would not be able to commensurate overall food grain demands of the State, L Ibomcha said under this vision farmers from the hill districts are being targeted to chip in to the food stock of Manipur.
