Forum calls for abrogating SoO pact

While asserting that armed Kuki militants under suspension of operation (SoO) signed with the central government are violating ground rules of the agreement, CCIAN Forum has stated that abrogation of SoO by the central government at the earliest will ultimately chain the Kuki militants.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of providing essential items womenfolk and village volunteers of Kadangband Part I who frequently face attacks by armed Kuki militants, CCIAN Forum Peace Committee president Ingocha Laishram lamented that the 9-month long crisis in the state has left many homeless and precious lives lost.
While posing how long the government will keep the people under such situation, he suggested that the central government abrogate the SoO agreement with the Kuki militants to help return of peace in the state.
While appealing to authority concerned to restore peace at the earliest, Ingocha said that people of Manipur are suffering immeasurably due to the crisis with the students in particular losing invaluable time.
As such, the state government should also initiate effective measures to bring an end to the current crisis at the earliest, he appealed.
Stating that CCIAN Forum has been providing assistance to the Meetei people directly affected by the crisis raging since May 15 last year, he said that as part of extending help to the people, the forum reached out to the womenfolk and youth of Kadangband Part I for the second time on Sunday.
It is only because of the village volunteers staying awake whole night and guarding the villages that we are able to sleep peacefully, Acknowledged the president, adding that CCIAN Forum firmly believe that extending help to the village volunteers is its bounden obligation.
