Imphal, February 04 2024:
Abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki militants will help pave the way to resolve the crisis besieging the state, said former director of prosecution Ngangom Tejkumar.
Speaking at a one-day state level workshop on the present crisis in the state organised by Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO) at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, Tejkumar expressed concern over the hardships being ensured by the displaced people due to the never ending violence and criticised the government for not taking up any concrete measures to resolve the crisis.
While opining that deployment of 1000 state security forces in each of the key locations of Kuki militants could easily control the situation, he also proposed abrogation of the SoO agreement with Kuki militants, cutting off support to Kuki militants by central security forces, and replacing the central security forces with state forces to resolve the crisis.
By doing so, the crisis can be controlled and normalcy restored after which the displaced families can go back and resettle their lives, he contended.
Manipur Human Rights Commission former chairman Khaidem Mani and UMO president Moirangthem Sorojini Leima were chief guest and president respectively of the workshop's inauguration programme while World Human Rights Protection Commission, international chairman Dr Loijinglen Chingsanglakpa Nameirakpam, and Life Vigil International chief executive officer Angomcha Araba were the guests of honour.
According to Moirangthem Sorojini, the present crisis in the state is a fight for upholding the identity and integrity of Manipur.
Stressing the need for better understanding of the complex situation, and exercising caution while upholding basic principles of dos and don'ts, she maintained that workshop is aimed at creating awareness on the role of women in the crisis.
Khaidem Mani spoke on the role of women in past movements, how they are contributing in the present crisis to safeguard the integrity of the state while Calling for sustaining the movement.
