This year in India, the observance is focusing on cervical cancer keeping in view of the rising cases of cervical cancer in the country, which is the second most common case after breast cancer in India.
Cervical cancer is caused by HPV virus and timely immunisation can prevent this cancer type, explained the chairman.
He also called for changing the perspective on cancer outcomes stating that success rate of treatment with early detection has reached 65 per cent.
Dr Vikramjit urged the public to consult doctors in ease of any health issue so that necessary tests could be conducted for timely treatment.
