Imphal, February 04 2024:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has criticised the Union government on latter's failure to resolve the protracted Manipur crisis and said that inability to restore peace in the state underscores centre's incompetency and inefficiency in running the nation.
Speaking at the 21st foundation day of All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation (AMMPACO) held at JN Manipur Dance Academy, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang opined that the humanitarian crisis in the state is part of the union government's diabolic plan to divide the society as could be comprehended from the violence raging for the last nine months.
Under such a situation, it has imperative for the people of Manipur to remain alert and band together keeping aside all differences, he stressed.
While appealing all to extend support and cooperation to activities of the village volunteers, Nando also said that time has come to stop picking and discussing faults of the village volunteers but to boost their morale in protecting the fringe villages.
He also pointed out the need to incorporate a clause in the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), to exclude Manipur from purview of the Act as and when it is implemented throughout the country.
Though the Act has its merit, it would be unwise to accept an Act having the potential to lead to population explosion due to unrestrained influx of outsiders.
Such Act should be implemented in bigger states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, he added.
AMMPACO working president Y Hayatur Rahman, who was also present at the event, said that the people of the state are eagerly waiting for the day when the crisis will be over.
The raging violence has made all sections of the society suffer and future of the state uncertain.
He also said that AMMPACO has been extending support to the people affected by the crisis and taking shelter in relief camps and to village volunteers safeguarding their villages at the foothills.
The function was also attended by All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur vice president Rk Leibaktombi and Kshetrigao Apunba Nupi Lup president Ima Jano as presidium members.
