Imphal, June 26 2026:
The Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Governor, along with a signature campaign, urging the Government to grant general amnesty to four members of Arambai Tenggol recently arrested by the National Investigation Agency.
The memorandum stated that since ethnic violence broke out on May 3, 2023, Meitei villages had allegedly faced attacks by armed Chin-Kuki groups.
It claimed Arambai Tenggol members and village volunteers acted only to protect their ancestral land and defend the Meitei community, and should not be treated as anti-national elements or terrorists.
UNAL appealed to both the Centre and State Government to extend amnesty to the arrested members and village volunteers in the interest of peace and reconciliation.
Residents of Uripok also staged a sit-in protest and participated in the signature campaign.
The memorandum noted that, responding to the Governor's earlier appeal for surrender of illegal arms, Arambai Tenggol members had voluntarily surrendered several weapons.
UNAL expressed hope that the Governor and concerned authorities would consider the appeal sympathetically and take appropriate steps.
