Imphal, June 26 2025:
Five major Left parties - Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party, All India Forward Bloc, and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation - have extended their unconditional support to the nationwide general strike scheduled for July 9, organised by the Joint Platform of Trade Unions.
In a joint statement issued Thursday, the parties stated that the strike, supported by 10 Central Trade Unions and independent all-India sectoral federations and associations, reflects the widespread opposition to the Labour Codes, which they described as part of a corporate agenda aimed at curtailing the basic democratic rights of workers, including the right to organise and undertake collective action.
The unions involved represent employees across central and state governments, banks, BSNL, postal services, insurance, Accountant General offices, transport, and teaching staff at schools, colleges, and universities.
The statement said that the BJP-led government, now in its third term, is pushing forward its neo-liberal agenda, with the Labour Codes at the centre of this drive.
It also alleged that the government is aggressively pursuing privatisation of vital national resources, especially in strategic sectors such as defence and communications, while cracking down on all forms of opposition to its anti-worker policies.
The Left parties stated that the July 9 strike also reiterates the broader set of demands raised by trade unions, which reflect the concerns of peasants, agricultural workers, and the general public.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and other agricultural workers' organisations have also extended their support to the strike and called for massive mobilisations across the country.
According to the statement, the general strike and the solidarity actions by the peasantry will help build and strengthen the unity of working people against attempts to divide them and spread hatred.
Calling upon the public to support the general strike, the Left parties urged all their units to actively campaign and mobilise in large numbers to ensure its success.
