Imphal, September 22 2014:
Former minister and veteran politician O Joy has on Monday alleged that involvement of prominent political leaders of Manipur in the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) graft case has been clearly indicated in the wake of the recent CBI raids carried out at nine different places including the official quarters of two former Directors of the Government premier hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju and BJP President Amit Shah have been urged in a letter to facilitate speedy investigation into the RIMS graft case and also to take up such steps to cleanse other Central offices and institutions including Manipur University, O Joy told a press meet at the Press Club.
In the letter, the veteran politician quoted an Imphal based local newspaper which reported that a letter was seized from a lady officer, written with her official seal during one of the raids carried out on September 12, asking a prominent political leader of Manipur to 'refund' a sum of Rs 1 crore taken as bribe for not allowing the CBI to conduct inquiry into the RIMS graft case and for not removing former Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Dr L Sekharjit from his post.
The report said the letter was shown to the media, but they were not allowed to photograph it, Joy mentioned in the letter to the Central leaders, adding it implicates important political leaders of Manipur in the alleged corruption case.
It said it is really an unfortunate event in the health delivery system of the state and claimed that the incident also casts a serious reflection on the image of the Central Bureau of Investigation and Union Government as well.
It is pertinent to mention that there are certain undeniable and indelible facts on a good number of patients who had met unnatural deaths during the last few years due to negligence and mismanagement of the hospital administration, the letter accused.
It alleged that it has become an evolved practice and measure of the authority to silence such cases of unnatural death due to negligence of doctors, and that they are ignoring corrective measures and so it appears in the mind of general public that some of the doctors are more interested in earning money than maintaining their professional ethics and devotion to duties.
In the letter, Joy requested the Central leaders to expedite the investigation into the graft case so that the culprits are booked and cleared the cloud of doubts hanging in the mind of general public and to cleanse other Central offices and institutions including Manipur University.
