Imphal, May 18 2026:
A joint sit-in protest was staged at the Community Hall of Khonghampat Youth Clubs & Apunba Meira Paibi Building on Monday, demanding urgent Government action to restore peace in Manipur.
The protest was organised by clubs and meira paibis of Koirengei, Pheidinga, Khonghampat, Tendongyan, Maharabi, Loitang, Potsangbam, Leikinthabi and Wabagai, representing villages from Koirengei to Sekmai.
Protesters said people across Manipur are holding similar demonstrations to demand an end to the prolonged violence and insecurity.
They questioned why the Manipur and Indian Governments remain "silent spectators" while killings and attacks continue.

"People of Manipur have been living in fear for a long time.
If the Government cannot protect us, we will defend our land ourselves.
We are left with no option but to demand our right to live freely", a protester said.
The gathering condemned what it called a "proxy war" and the killing of civilians by armed groups.
It demanded that Indian Security Forces who cannot protect lives and property be withdrawn from the State, and called for an immediate end to "State terrorism" .
Protesters added that India's inaction over civilian deaths in the 21st century contradicts its global image as a peacekeeper.
They warned that if killings continue, people from every village will launch a united agitation.
The organisers appealed to people in all localities of Manipur to hold sit-ins in their own areas to build a united movement for peace.
