Moreh, July 16 2026:
In a dual initiative aimed at ensuring public safety and promoting community welfare, Assam Rifles carried out a preventive anti-dengue fogging drive and facilitated the peaceful celebration of the annual Rath Yatra in Moreh, Tengnoupal district, on Thursday as part of efforts to promote public health and community welfare.
According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the fogging campaign was launched in coordination with the Civil Administration and Civil Society Organisations in response to the rising risk of mosquito-borne diseases in the border town.
The operation covered residential areas, markets, educational institutions and religious places, with special focus on the Rath Yatra procession route from the ISKCON Temple to the Tamil Temple.
Alongside the sanitisation, troops also conducted awareness activities, urging residents to eliminate stagnant water, maintain proper hygiene and adopt community sanitation practices to prevent mosquito breeding.
Following the preventive drive, Assam Rifles facilitated the smooth conduct of the annual Rath Yatra organised by the ISKCON Temple.
The procession began from the ISKCON Temple at Nepali Basti and passed through Moreh Police Station, Tamil Temple and Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No.2 before concluding at the temple.
The festival witnessed the participation of around 2,000 devotees from various communities, including Tamil, Nepali, Bihari, Jain, Sikh and Bengali, reflecting the communal harmony and cultural diversity of the border town.
A joint security arrangement involving Assam Rifles, the Civil Administration and Manipur Police ensured the peaceful conduct of the event.
Assam Rifles also provided food items for the community feast and assisted in serving Mahaprasad (Langar) to devotees, reinforcing its outreach and cooperation with the local community.
