Imphal, July 15 2026:
A month-long awareness campaign demanding a 'Disturbance Free Educational Zone' was launched today at TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal, under the theme "Save Education, Save Manipur, Save the Future".
The campaign was initiated by the Co-ordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand.
Speaking at the event, DESAM president Oinam Romesh said the State's education sector is suffering from a "serious disease".
To cure it, the committee has launched the campaign.
He said in today's fastchanging world, Manipur is facing shortages of classrooms, delays in textbooks, and lack of timely teacher policies.
He further stated that due to the Government's failure to address various issues in the education sector on time, CSOs and student bodies are forced to intensify their demands.
If the government fulfills its responsibilities, teachers and different associations would not need to launch such demands.
"Some schools with large student populations do not even have adequate teachers.
One teacher handling 100 students is not in line with India's NEP.
Though the new National Education Policy has been framed, Manipur is lagging in proper implementation.
Even NEP 2020 is yet to be effectively implemented here", he added.
He raised concern over who will safeguard and value education in the State.
The function was attended by Moirangthem Lokendro, chairman of Co-ordinating Committee and president of AMCTA; Laishram Joykhuman, president of AMRPSWA; and Laishram Jugindro, convenor of COTA; as presidium members.
The Co-ordinating Committee comprises 16 bodies including AMCTA, AMRPSWA, MGHSLWA, UARSOM, AMSGO, AMESTA, CESM, COTA, PSDC, CASA, AMTEI, AMSSTA, BDRPSA, DIETEA, AIMS and DESAM .
