Imphal, July 14 2026:
The Shri Shri Govindaji Temple Board has announced that all preparations for the Konung Kang Chingba have been completed.
The festival, one of the most significant events of Sanatan Dharma, will be held from July 16 to 24 .
Speaking at a press meet held on Tuesday at Shri Shri Govindaji Temple, Konung Lampak, Temple Board member Kakchingtabam Brajamani Sharma said the core message of the Kang festival is universal love or vishwa prem.
"Shri Jagabondhu does not differentiate between high and low.
The tradition of going to the homes of the sick, the disabled, and those unable to come to the Temple to give them darshan reflects this spirit of equality and compassion", he said.
He also explained that while in Puri, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra ride separate chariots, in Manipur all three deities travel together in a single Kang.
He elaborated on the various incarnations of Shri Jagabondhu and how the tradition reached Manipur.
Brajamani Sharma further expressed hope that the festival would bring peace, prosperity, and unity to a Manipur currently facing hardship.
General secretary of the Temple Board's Brahma Sabha, Thongratabam Joychandra Sharma, said the event is jointly organised by the Board and its subordinate Loishangs.
As part of the festival, Netra Utsav will be held tomorrow, followed by Luxmi Keithel Kaba on the day before Kanglen.
He noted that the Kang festival was first introduced in Manipur in 1832-33 during the reign of King Gambhir Singh at Langthabal Konung.
The public was urged to participate and receive the blessings of Shri Jagabondhu.
