Moirang, January 13 2026:
Condemning the bomb attack at a petrol pump and the subsequent shutdown of fuel outlets, residents of Phougakchao Ikhai Ward No 2 staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday at Phougakchao Ikhai.
Speaking to the media, Torbung GP Meira Paibi secretary T Kegesana said that at a time when the State is passing through a difficult phase, incidents that could otherwise be resolved through dialogue are being aggravated by acts of violence.
She described the hurling of bombs at a petrol pump as highly unfortunate and dangerous.
She pointed out that had people been present at the petrol pump filling fuel at the time of the incident, there could have been heavy casualties.
Moreover, she warned that if the bomb explosion had triggered a larger blast at the fuel outlet, it could have caused extensive damage to nearby localities and injured many innocent people, further worsening the hardships already being faced by the public due to the ongoing violence in the State.
Appealing to those responsible for the attack, she urged them to engage in dialogue with the petrol pump owners to arrive at an amicable solution.
She also appealed to the petrol pump owners and dealers not to shut down outlets every time such incidents occur, stating that frequent closures have caused severe inconvenience to daily wage earners and commuters.
She highlighted that many people are being forced to procure fuel at exorbitant rates ranging from Rs 140 to Rs 160 per litre for commuting to workplaces and other essential purposes, adding to the woes of the common people.
Further, she appealed to the relevant authorities to take appropriate steps to ensure the reopening of petrol outlets across the State, and urged petrol pump dealers and owners to resume normal operations in the larger interest of the public.
