Security beefed up for farmers' safety: Police

Imphal, July 03 2025: With the farming season currently in progress, security measures across the state have been significantly strengthened to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure the safety of farmers, police said in a statement issued on Thursday.

To review the security arrangements related to farming and enhance coordination among security forces, a Combined Headquarters (CHQ) meeting was held on June 28, chaired by the security advisor and attended by chief secretary and DGP, along with representatives of all security forces.

The review meeting was aimed particularly at preventing incidents similar to the recent one reported at Phubala in Bishnupur district, the statement said.

Manipur police personnel have been deployed in vulnerable farming areas on both the hill and valley sides, assisting central security forces in providing security to farming areas and supporting ongoing agricultural activities.

Meanwhile, to enhance security cover in areas affected by recent incidents, redeployment of central security forces has been carried out in and around Phubala area.

The police headquarters has also issued alert messages to all district SPs directing them to immediately implement enhanced security protocols in connection with ongoing farming and cultivation activities.

Senior police officers are carrying out spot visits to vulnerable areas to oversee the security arrangements, including identification of vulnerable agricultural zones that may require additional security presence and enhanced surveillance measures.

To prevent the movement and activities of miscreants, joint combing operations are being regularly conducted in fringe areas, including deep areas inside the hills.

At the same time, Flying squads and Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been set up by the administration to provide immediate assistance if required.

The district administration and police have also conducted several local coordination meetings in consultation with the public, including discussions on farming hours and operational planning.

The police further advised the public, particularly farmers, to remain vigilant and to promptly inform local police or security forces before proceeding to farming activities in vulnerable or sensitive areas.
