Imphal, January 23 2026:
Condemnations from different sections have poured in over the cold blooded murder of Mayanglambam Rishikanta s/o M Tombi of Kakching Khunou Uchal Makhong, Kakching district by suspected Kuki terrorists at Natjang, Churachandpur.
Strongly condemning the cold blooded murder of Rishikanta, the Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has demanded that the Government, currently under President's Rule (PR), quickly apprehend those involved in the killing, including a woman allegedly linked to the perpetrators.
In a release, FESOK raised concerns about the ongoing violence and the perceived indifference of the Indian Government towards the issues in Manipur.
FESOK warned that if the Indian Government continues to ignore the situation and does not resolve the Manipur issue promptly, the consequences of the people's collective movement would be the responsibility of the Indian Government.
The organisation also reminded the Government that the people of Manipur retain the right to reject the 1949 merger agreement if the neglect continues.
Extending solidarity to the bereaved family, FESOK also urged the Government to take necessary steps to prevent such acts and ensure that criminals face befitting penalties proportionate to the severity of their cruelty.
The Manipur Ima has also condemned the brutal murder of Mayanglambam Rishikanta in the strongest terms.
While the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) has denied involvement, Manipur Ima asserted that the perpetrators are within Churachandpur and must be identified and handed over to the public by the KNO immediately.
In a release, Manipur Ima also expressed dismay that the killing occurred shortly after the KNO and UPF signed a peace agreement with the Government of India and the Governor assured the public that there are no "buffer zones" in the State.
The association also urged the Government to arrest the Kuki terrorist perpetrators and award befitting punishment as per the law.
Conveying its support to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in response to Rishikanta's death, Manipur Ima cautioned that if the Government cannot bring the killers to justice, the Meitei community will take matters into their own hands to protect Manipur, asking all security personnel to return to their barracks.
The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council has also strongly condemned the cold blooded murder of Rishikanta and extended solidarity to the bereaved family.
In a release, CPI/MSC expressed concern over the inability of the Government to protect the lives of innocent civilians in Manipur, despite heavy security deployment and militarization in the State since May 3, 2023.The party also urged the Government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to arrest the culprits involved in the cold blooded murder at the earliest.
