New 'Soil Atlas' maps sulphur, micronutrient deficiencies across NE

Imphal, April 18 2026:
A key scientific resource for Northeast agriculture was unveiled yesterday with the release of the "Atlas of Sulphur and Micronutrient Status in Soils of Northeast India" .
The book was launched at the inaugural session of the XXX Biennial Workshop of AICRP-MSPE, held at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science (IISS), Bhopal.
The publication is the result of extensive work by the AICRP-MSPE Imphal Centre at Central Agricultural University (CAU).
Chief editor Prof Indira Sarangthem led the project with a team of 11 co-editors.
The Atlas provides detailed soil fertility maps for sulphur and essential micronutrients - zinc, iron, copper, manganese, and boron - across diverse soil profiles.
It covers all eight Northeastern States - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura - mapping variations at the district level It also includes crop-wise nutrient management options to help regional farmers and agricultural planners improve yields and soil health.
The release ceremony was attended by Dr A K Shukla, Vice-Chancellor.
