Imphal, December 12 2023:
The Nupi Lan Day Observation Committee comprising AMKIL, KANGLAMEI, Poirei Leimarol, CHITUWA, AMAWOVA, Nupi Samaj, KAWA, Tammi-Chingmi, WWOK, MEPWAKKIL, and CLK organised the 84th Nupi Lan Day observance at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen, DM University campus, on Tuesday.
The function was attended by AMKIL president L Nganbi Leima, Kanglamei president Y Leirik Leima, Poirei Leimarol president S Memcha, CHITUWA president M Purnimashi Leima, Protection and Preservation Committee convenor Pheiroijan\Nando Luwang, Kabui Mothers' Association president Atongpi Kamei and GP Women's College assistant professor Dr Firoza Sayeed as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Nando Luwang expressed that observance of Nupi Lan assumes significance especially as the state is passing through a critical phase as the Kukis are trying to disintegrate Manipur compared to the Meeteis endeavouring to uphold emotional and territorial integrity of Manipur at all cost.
Even as the local volunteers are enduring serious inconveniences to safeguard the villages from attack by Kukis, meira paibi activists have been voluntarily staying overnight in the open to save Manipur from disintegration despite facing risk amid bomb attacks and random firing.
In the process, many women suffered injuries while several lost their lives, Nando noted.
He also expressed strong resentment that the central government is wrongly portraying village volunteers and meira paibi activists rather than acknowledging their role and commitment to save the territorial integrity of Manipur.
We should make the government of India and the whole world aware about Chin-Kuki terrorists not only abetting the situation but also endorsing the demand for a separate administration as proposed by Kuki legislators, he maintained.
As a part of the observance, floral tributes were offered to the photos of those women who laid down their lives for the sake of the motherland.
