UNAU Day observed in Churachandpur, role of siblings of PwDs highlighted

UNAU Day 2026 (Day of Siblings with Disabilities) was observed today at the Auditorium, 2nd Floor, Gospel Centenary Hall, Hebron Veng, Churachandpur, with a focus on recognising the contributions of siblings of persons with disabilities and promoting inclusion, understanding and community support.
The programme was organised by the Centre for Community Initiative (CCI), Pearsonmun Village.
Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Churachandpur, Krishna Kumar, appreciated the efforts of CCI, specially-abled children, their siblings and parents.
He stated that the right to dignity and equality must be ensured for all as guaranteed under the Constitution and reinforced through recent judgments of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
The DC said that the district administration is committed to the welfare, education and empowerment of persons with disabilities through various initiatives, including UDID, scholarships and distribution of assistive aids such as wheelchairs, smart sticks and artificial limbs.
He also highlighted the government's efforts under the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan to create accessible social, health and physical infrastructure, while stressing that awareness and collective responsibility remain vital for achieving true inclusion.
He assured full support from the district administration for initiatives promoting the well-being of persons with disabilities.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Ginmalsawm Tonsing Award 2026 and Social Inclusion Awards.
The Ginmalsawm Tonsing Award was conferred upon Thangchonsei Kipgen, Class X student of Elcism High School, and Taithangmawi of Special Blind School, Durtlang, Aizawl.
The Social Inclusion Award 2026 was presented to YPA Bungmual Unit and ECA Mission Department.

Special presentations by students of The Malsawm Initiative (TMI) added significance to the programme.
