Imphal, June 13 2026:
People who mock or discriminate against those living with HIV/AIDS do so out of ignorance, a woman living with HIV said today at a nutrition support programme in Imphal.
The Nirvana Foundation organised the programme at its Care Point Centre in Kwakeithel Akham Leikai as part of a monthly drive held every second Saturday to distribute nutritious food to HIV-positive children.
Speaking at the event, the woman said discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS is "deeply unfortunate" and will continue as long as society exists.
She urged people not to use abusive language or ridicule HIV-positive persons, adding that they are human beings too.
"Let us strive for an equal society.
If anyone is hiding their status, please come forward and get treatment", she said.
Responding to stigma, she added "Those who mock us live with the challenge- who will live longer".
Rosita Wangkheimayum, Programme Manager of Care Point Centre, said the centre has been providing essential food items to HIV-positive children every second Saturday of the month since 2025.At present, 103 children from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families receive monthly nutritional support aimed at keeping them healthy.
Beyond food, the centre conducts regular health checkups, monitors adherence to medication, and arranges viral load tests when needed.
Counselling is also provided to help families overcome distress and return to normal life.
"Many still discriminate against HIV-positive people.
They are not positive because of some unforgivable act.
They deserve the same respect and treatment as anyone else", Rosita said, urging early testing and treatment.
Nirvana Foundation secretary Sobhana Sorokhaibam was also present at the event.
