Imphal, April 13 2026:
Outrage mounts across Manipur over the brutal midnight bomb attack in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, Bishnupur district, which killed two innocent toddlers, and the alleged firing by CRPF personnel on protesters that claimed three more lives, sparking widespread condemnations and planned sit-ins.
The predawn assault struck around 1 am on April 7, under Moirang Police Station limits, tragically killing five-month-old Oinam Yaisana and her five-year-old brother Oinam Tomthin as they slept.
Their mother, Oinam Ongbi Binita Devi (35), suffered critical injuries.
An RPG shell linked to a remote-control battery was later found 200 meters away and safely defused by police and a bomb disposal squad.
Manipur Loumi Lup's strong condemnation
The Manipur Loumi Lup has vehemently denounced the blast as a heinous act of terrorism, emphasizing that international norms in conflict zones strictly prohibit nighttime bomb and firearm attacks on sleeping civilians.
In a detailed press release, the association demanded the swift arrest of the perpetrators and rigorous legal action.
They specifically called for fingerprinting all suspects detained in combined State-Central Security operations to ensure the actual culprits behind the Tronglaobi incident are not overlooked.
Slamming the State Home Department, the Lup described its failure to apprehend those responsible seven days post-incident as a major policy failure, urging immediate accountability to prevent further tragedies.
MACKCMAL announces mass protests
The Manipur Awang Chingkhei Kanba Clubs & Meirapaibi Apunba Lup (MACKCMAL) and Coordinating Body-Khurai labeled the April 7 events in Tronglaobi a highly unfortunate incident, alleging "Kuki narco-terrorists" targeted a Meitei area with a bomb, brutally killing the two sleeping siblings.
They further accused CRPF personnel of opening fire on an "unarmed, aggrieved public" protesting at their camp, resulting in three more deaths, and charged the force with negligence for failing to secure the area beforehand.
Representing clubs and Meira Paibi lups from Khurai, Lamlai, Khundrakpam Assembly Constituencies, and nearby regions, the joint body demanded legal action against both the alleged attackers and involved CRPF personnel for the five killings.
MACKCMAL issued a press release today announcing a series of mass sit-in protests to demand justice: April 15 (Lamlong to Yaingangpokpi, 11 am- 2 pm), April 16 (Lamlong to Dolaithabi, 11 am-2 pm), and April 17 (Lamlong to Takhel, 11 am-2 pm) .
The statement concluded with an emotional plea for residents to unite, safeguard Manipur's integrity, and ensure justice for the victims' families.
