Imphal, May 11 2025:
Manipur's lone Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba on Sunday expressed hope that a popular government will be formed in the state within the next one or two months and urged all political leaders to unite in addressing the challenges.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event, Sanajaoba said, "I strongly believe a popular government will be formed within the next one or two months.
President's rule alone cannot resolve the issues.
A popular government can work more closely with the people".
Sanajaoba also agreed with public criticism that the state's MLAs have failed to act collectively and decisively in response to the crisis.
"We have placed personal ambition above the state's interests.
The imposition of President's rule happened because we prioritised power and self-interest over Manipur's welfare," the BJP MP said.
His remarks come amid growing public frustration over the ongoing President's Rule and the failure of elected representatives to respond effectively to the crisis.
Manipur has been under President's Rule since the state government collapsed amid political instability and escalating ethnic tensions.
Meanwhile, reminding the people that India got its freedom from the British rulers solely due to non-violence movement of Mahatma Gandhi, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan has opined that bringing normalcy back in Manipur would not take much time if every community settling in the state follow non-violence movement in pursuance of any demand.
Apart from the Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, MLA Kh Joykisan attended inauguration function of the renovated complex of Mahatma Gandhi Park at Thangal bazar, here, on Sunday.
Addressing gathering at the function organised by Bazar Development Committee, Kh Joykisan said it is clearly written in the history that India got its freedom from the colonial British solely due to non-violence movement of Mahatma Gandhi better known as Bapuji.
Similarly, restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur would be feasible if people of the state follow Bapuji's ideals of non-violent movement.
According to MLA Joykisan, Thangmeiband assembly constituency is inhabited by multiple communities and it is similar to a mini India.
Lauding cleanliness efforts being initiated by bazar communities in city area without any differentiation of religion/communities, he assured to extend all possible help from his side in such initiatives.
He also appealed to the government to extend help to efforts of bazar communities in keeping Imphal city neat and clean.
The event was also attended by Bazar Development Committee coordinator Yogesh Jain, retired chief engineer (external aided projects) cum MG park renovation committee co-mentor Yumnam Jaykumar and co-mentor L Suranjoy.
Earlier, Governor AK Bhalla led the people in paying floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi erected at the park, followed by cultural programme.
