Memorial stone unveiled in honour of elderly pioneers at Khumji village

A memorial stone was unveiled today at the residence of Adibon Gonmei in Khumji-II village, Noney district in honour of four pioneering figures - late Guikepou Gonmei, Singbamliu Gonmei, Guigou Gonmei, and Thuijinang @ Athui Gonmei.
The programme was held under the theme "Be Faithful Until Death, and I Will Give You the Crown of Life", marking a moment of solemn remembrance and celebration of legacy.
The memorial stone was unveiled by Rev G Gaiphulung, Pastor of Khumji-II Baptist Church, after which family members, relatives and attendees offered floral tributes in memory of the departed.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Kinthuan Gonmei, Khullakpa of Khumji-II, followed by reflections from elders and village authorities who recounted the lives, works and pioneering role of the honourees in shaping the village.
Former RNCM president Thuakubui Pamei and former Cabinet Minister (GoM) Samuel Jiandai also spoke, acknowledging the foundational contributions of the pioneers to the establishment and subsequent development of Khumji-II village.
Among the honourees, Late Guigou Gonmei was remembered as one of the earliest settlers and the first Khullakpa of Khumji-II in 1963.He also served as the first Pastor of Khumji-II Baptist Church from 1964-1968 and 1970-71, and held multiple responsibilities within the church during his lifetime.
Late Thuijinang Gonmei, youngest son of Guigou Gonmei, was recalled as one of the first Government teachers at New Lukhambi (Khumji-II) Aided LP School, and a devoted church worker who served in numerous ministries.
Rev G Gaiphulung also delivered the Gospel message for the day, reflecting on the day's theme.
Special songs presented by Twin Brothers, Khumji-II BYF and family members, created a reflective and devotional atmosphere.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by mass prayer and benediction pronounced by Khumji TBC Pastor Jesse Thaimei, bringing the commemorative event to a reverent close.
