State pavilion conducts business worth Rs 20 lakh

New Delhi, November 26 2009: Twenty four private exhibitors and five government departments and public undertakings in the Manipur Pavilion of the ongoing 29th India International Trade Fair held at Pragati Maidan here so far conducted business worth Rs 20 lakhs while selling their products.

Mangsatabam Ongbi Memi Devi of Kongpal Chanam Leikai and Standard Weaving Cooperative Society of Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai sold their handloom products worth more than Rs two lakhs each.

Pioneer Women's Welfare Association of Keisamthong Laisom Leirak and Kongba Meirombi Cooperative Society Ltd of Kongba Kshetri Leikai earned more than Rs one lakh each from their handloom and handicrafts products.

Uchekon Mayai Leikai Weavers Coop Society of Kongba Bazar, Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans Coop Society Ltd of Paona Bazar, Tokpam Leikai Weavers Coop Society of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai and Amakcham Pandit Leikai Weavers Coop Society of Kongba Makha Leikai Laikon were picking up to reach the record sale of Rs one lakh each.

Aduana Panmei, Proprietor of Jessia Flower Making Unit, I..BBazar, Tamenglong who came all the way from Tamenglong was happy to take part in the International Fair and said that her participation in the Fair was the first time.

She said that she started her business of artificial hand made flowers since the year 2006 and also trained the youngsters in making flowers.

She said that she so far earned less than Rs twenty five thousand but many visitors took position in front of her colourful stall for taking photographs.

B Kiranjit Sharma of B.K Flute Industry, Brahmapur Nahabam Puritmayum Leirak displayed different sizes of standard flutes made of bamboo in his stall.

He can play music on flute.

He said that he started his business since the year 1996 .

The prices of the flutes ranged from Rs 150 to Rs 6000 .

He so far earned around Rs fifty thousand in the fair.

He himself was undergoing Master Degree in Applied Art in Assam University, Silchar in Assam.

He made the flutes from two kinds of bamboo namely Khok and Nat which were abundantly available at Loitang Khunou, Khurkhul and Sandangsemba Maring Khul.

He said that he sold his products in Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow and Assam through some agents.

Famous musicians like, Hari Prasad Chourasia and A.R Rahman used his products, he added.

The Manipur Day celebration held today at Lal Chowk Theatre in the Pragati Maidan was overcrowded.

People thronged the venue to have a glimpse of the classical Manipuri Ras and spectacular martial arts of Manipur.

Resident Commisssioner of Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi Shri Shambhu Singh, IAS who was the Chief Guest of the Cultural Evening of Manipur said that though Manipur was small State, it had varieties of beautiful dances and the country was proud of the rich culture of Manipur.

Director of Commerce and Industries Norbert Disinang, IAS welcomed the audience to enjoy the evening.

Rhythmic Lai Haraoba Dance and Maibi Dance, spectacular sword fighting between a girl and two boys, Kabui Kitlam Dance and the Manipuri classical dance- Basanta Ras were items which enthralled the crowd of the Manipur Day evening.
