A large number of students raised slogans - "No NRC, No Census" and demanded 1951 as the base year for NRC updation.
JFD Students Wing functionary Angom Daisy Chanu said though legislators spoke about NRC in the recent Manipur Legislative Assembly session, no official order has been issued to implement it.
The Government has not given a concrete reply to the demands raised by the people and JFD, she said, adding that students will continue protests demanding the State Government to mount pressure on the Centre to update NRC with 1951 as base year.
Meanwhile, Moral Reformation Club (MRC) Lamboikhul, Lamboikhul Development Committee and Meira Paibi LNKL jointly held a protest demonstration at Multipurpose Building, Lamboikhul today declaring that census will not be allowed before NRC .
Speaking at the protest, MRC general secretary H Somendro said organisations in the Lamboikhul area fully support the movement launched by JFD and 14 CSOs that census should not be conducted without NRC .
If attempts are made to conduct a census without first identifying outsiders through NRC, census officials will not be allowed to enter Lamboikhul, he said.
