Kangpokpi, April 26 2026:
In a scathing indictment of the "popular Government", the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights questioned the complete lack of progress on justice and accountability in Manipur, and demanded immediate, visible intervention from the Centre following the killing of "two village volunteers" in Ukhrul district.
In a strongly worded press release, the organisation said that with May 3 approaching - marking nearly three year since the outbreak of ethnic violence - there is little to show on the ground beyond "mere political rhetoric", even as villagers continue to face attacks and displacement.
The statement referred to the killing of "two Kuki village volunteers" from Mullam and Songphal villages in Ukhrul district in an alleged attack.
The organisation alleged that women and children were not spared in the attack, with a mother and her daughter injured, and around 15 houses allegedly set ablaze.
In a direct rebuke of the State leadership, the group said it no longer seeks assurances but "evidence" from the popular Government on the ground - specifically, proof of safety, security, and protection of the basic human rights of the Kuki community.
It appealed to the Centre Government, demanding that it step in decisively to ensure accountability.
The organisation stressed that the Centre must demonstrate, through concrete action, that the rule of law prevails in Manipur and that the human rights of vulnerable communities are being upheld.
