Imphal, June 24 2010: Police investigating into the car hijacking case today hinted possibility of involving of driver in the hijacking of a new brand car by miscreants on the NH-39 at New Makhan Khunou under Mao police station of Senapati district.

On Sunday last, a new car (Alto brand) with chassis no.1632699 (engine no.439296), cream bright in colour was reportedly hijacked by some unknown persons at gunpoint on the way to Imphal from Dimapur at New Makhan Khunou bridge on NH-39 about 20 km south of the Mao police station.

The vehicle was hijacked at about 1 pm of the day according to the complaint lodged by the driver of the car, Moirangthem Binod (49) son of late Dhananjoy of Old Colony, Dimapur of Nagaland to the Mao police station.

He lodged the complaint at 6.50 pm of the same day.

Police is yet to trace out the hijacked car but investigation into the case to trace out is on.

Mao police registered the case under section 384 of IPC (Indian Penal Code), a police officer said Thursday.

The driver was called as part of the investigation into the case.

He disclosed that, a person who picked up by him from the way from Khuzuma, Nagaland had hijacked the vehicle.

But he failed explained clearly whether gun was in the possession of the hijacker.

He could not say clearly the kind of arm the hijacker possessed police said adding that they suspect the hijacker known to the driver.

Further investigation into the case revealed that on that day 25 new brand cars belonging to the Eastern Motor, Imphal (authorized maruti brand dealer) were together proceeded Imphal from Dimapur.

Except the driver of the hijacked car no other cars picked any stranger on their way or neither none stopped them to take a lift.

Police viewed conspiracy behind the hijacking incident pointing out that the driver could not clearly say whether the hijacker possessed gun or not and picking up the hijacker when other drivers ahead of him were not stopped or asked to take a lift.

Around 25 vehicles had already crossed the Khuzuma area ahead of him and there were no reports of obstructing them by anyone on their way, police said.

It is pertinent to mention here that in some cases related with hijacking of vehicles and looting of goods on the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39, police had established drivers involving in the cases.
