Imphal, June 24 2010:
After the next general election to the State Assembly in 2012, Trinamool Congress and the ruling Congress party will have a major power sharing basis in the governance of the State, chairman of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress RK Dorendra has stated.
He was speaking at a reception function hosted in honour of Thangkhomang Haokip, who got elected on the ticket of Trinamool Congress from Khousabung ADC Constituency under Henglep Assembly Constituency of Churachandpur district in the recent Autonomous District Council elections, at the conference hall of Hotel Nirmala today.
After the State unit of Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee was recently set up in Manipur, Thangkhomang Haokip has become the first party candidate to get elected in an election, thus opening the account of the party in the State.
Speaking at the reception function, Dorendra, who is also a former Chief Minister of the State, disclosed that Trinamool Congress would be putting up at least 10 to 15 candidates in the upcoming general election to the State Assembly and after the election, efforts would be made for a major power sharing mechanism with the Congress party in the governance of the State.
Since the Trinamool Congress and Congress party are sharing power at the Centre, it is but natural that the two parties should come together on various political issues concerning Manipur as well, Dorendra said, adding that Trinamool Congress would try to plug any loopholes in the affairs of the State.
Informing that Trinamool Congress has started necessary preparations for the Imphal Municipal Council elections in unity and without any difference of opinions within the party, Dorendro disclosed that his party has made arrangement to field at least 14 to 15 candidates in the Municipal Council election.
Dorendro also congratulated Thangkhomang Haokip for the latter's success in the Autonomous District Council election against all odds.
State unit Trinamool Congress president and former MP Kim Gangte, while expressing happiness over the first success of the party candidate in an election in the State, observed that although most Congress candidates have been declared elect uncontested, the success of one Trinamool Congress candidate after fighting in the election is more valuable.
In order to bring about peace and developmental changes in Manipur, Trinamool Congress has started working from the grassroots level, she added.
Thangkhomang Haokip pledged to take up various development programmes and policies in consultation with other party leaders.
