Imphal, April 19 2026:
The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) observed its 8th Foundation Day on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), with speakers calling for unity against crime and corruption while flagging concerns over cultural dilution and demographic shifts.
The event opened with a minute's silence and floral tributes for the two children killed in the Tronglaobi bombing, three persons who died in alleged CRPF firing, and deceased KKL members and advisors.
The function was graced by dignitaries, including Heirok AC MLA, Thokchom Radheshyam Singh; KKL advisor, Laishram Joy Khuman; All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation (AMSGO) general secretary, Sumati Sougrakpam; All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president, Asem Bhakta; social activist Thoudam Ksherson; and Manipur University, Department of Anthropology's retired Professor Wangkhem Nabakumar Singh.
Delivering the keynote address, KKL secretary general Ngamkhei Ngakpa Luwang said the organisation was formed on April 8, 2018, by a group of youth committed to the welfare of Kangleipak.
Despite being a young body, KKL remains focused on addressing the State's socio-economic and cultural challenges, he said.
Thokchom Radheshyam addressed the current state of society, asserting that people should not be each other's enemies.
He identified crime, violence, corruption, and negative mindsets as the real adversaries that society must fight collectively.
Prof Wangkhem Nabakumar voiced concern over the younger generation's education, saying it is vital for youth to know their own history and culture.
Laishram Joy Khuman spoke on the declining population of the Meitei community.
He stressed that KKL is actively working on various programmes to address fears of the community becoming a minority in its ancestral land.
As part of the observance, prizes were given to winners of the state-level open debate competition on "Meetei nupina mitopta mayum panbana Meetei phurupta maangjaba leite", organised by KKL on April 5 .
The programme ended with citations and cash awards to two mothers honoured for raising large families, recognising their contribution to the community.
