Imphal, April 18 2026:
BABINA Hospital has expressed concern over an incident on the night of April 17, 2026, in which one of its ambulances was stoned while on emergency duty.
In a release, BABINA Hospital said the ambulance had picked up a doctor from Tera for an emergency surgical procedure.
At around 11:30 pm, it reached the Khurai Lamlong Bazaar area, where road blockades had been put up by members of the public and security personnel, and law enforcement authorities were managing the situation.
After navigating multiple checkpoints, the ambulance was stopped shortly after crossing Lamlong Bazaar.
Following a brief interaction, as the vehicle resumed movement, it came under stone pelting from the roadside.
The attack shattered the vehicle's side glass.
The doctor and driver escaped unhurt.
BABINA Hospital said it "deeply regrets the incident" and reiterated that ambulance services operate round-the-clock to provide critical care and transport patients and healthcare professionals during emergencies.
It cautioned that any disruption to such services can have serious implications for patient care.
The hospital said it understands prevailing public concerns and sensitivities in the current situation.
BABINA Hospital appealed to all sections of society to ensure emergency medical services are allowed to function without hindrance, even under difficult circumstances.
