Curfew imposed in Indo-Myanmar border areas of Manipur for 6 months

Ukhrul District Magistrate has imposed curfew within three kilometre belt along the Indo-Myanmar border adjacent to Ukhrul and Chandel Districts from 6 pm to 4 am everyday for a period of six months.
An order in this regard was issued by District Magistrate Ukhrul Hrisheekesh Modak.
The order said the curfew has been imposed following credible inputs about infiltration from across the border by militant groups and illegal export of commodities from Myanmar side into the Manipur sector of the border areas during night hours.

The movements especially during the night hours are likely create law and order problems in the State which needs to be restricted at the border belt to stop such illegal activities, said the order.
The State Home Department has also conveyed approval on the imposition of curfew along the Indo-Myanmar Border under section 144 CrPC.
No person including local hunters shall move in jungle within the limit of the territory in actual control of India in the district of Ukhrul in the specified hours without giving prior intimation to the Company Operation Base (COB), Temporary Operating Base (TOB), Commander of Assam Rifles/Indian Army deployed in the area.
No persons shall move on track other than major road tracks within the territory in actual control of India in the district between the specified hours.
No person shall carry any firearms for the purpose of hunting, fishing or any other purpose whatsoever within the limit of the territory in actual control of India, in Ukhrul District in the given hours without prior intimation to the Company Operation Base, TOB Commanders of Assam Rifles and Indian Army deployed in the area.
The order said no person shall move on any vehicle or on foot or using any other means within 3 km belt inside the international boundary within the Indian territory.
Any movement whatsoever between the specified hours within the 3 km of Indo-Myanmar Border within the territory in actual control of India of Ukhrul district should be endorsed by the villager/chief with prior intimation to the office of the commanding officer, Indian Army Battalion deployed in the area of the circle officer deployed in the area.
All vehicles and personnel moving across the international boundary of Indo-Myanmar under the Free Move Regiment (FMR) and people moving on rounds and track in villages close to the international boundary will be liable to surprise checks and vehicle inspection by the Assam Rifles Battalion/Indian Army deployed in the area to prevent acts of smugglings, transportation of illegal contraband item and illegal trafficking of arms and ammunitions.
All houses in the vicinity of the international boundary are liable for surprise checks by the Assam Rifles Battalion or Indian Army deployed in the area to prevent acts of smuggling transportation of illegal contraband items and illegal trafficking of arms and ammunitions All villagers in the areas are liable to prove the authenticity of identity of the individuals during surprise checks in their respective villages within the limit of territory in actual control of India in the district Ukhrul.
The order will not apply to the State and Centre employees on duty in the border areas.
The order came into force since October 12 and shall remain in force for a period of six months and can be extended if required.
