Imphal, July 12 2026:
The Manipur Home Guard Employees' Welfare Association (MHGEWA) has urged the State Government to fulfil the long-pending demands of Home Guard personnel.
Speaking at an event held at the Association's office in Luwangsangbam on Sunday, MHGEWA president Y Mangi said the programme was organised under the Home Guard Welfare Scheme Committee.
Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each was distributed to 27 Home Guard personnel who have retired or died in service.
Mangi said the welfare scheme was launched by the Association in 2022 for the benefit of Home Guard personnel.
As per the scheme, Rs 1 lakh is given to a personnel on retirement or in case of death.
Rs 500 is collected monthly from each member to run the fund.
So far, 168 personnel have received assistance under the scheme.
Of the around 1,693 Home Guards in the State, about 1,200 are members of the scheme, while 63 have withdrawn.
He said despite repeated appeals and a High Court of Manipur directive to appoint a Commandant General, prepare a seniority list, and frame promotion guidelines as per Act and Rules, the Government has not acted.
Attempts to meet the Chief Minister and Home Minister have also not yielded results, he lamented.
Mangi appealed to the Government to address the grievances of Home Guards and ensure they are not left behind in the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 .
