Imphal, June 12 2026:
The Joint Tribes' Council Manipur (JTCM) has appealed to the Chief Minister to immediately introduce a helicopter service between Noney district and Imphal, citing severe hardships faced by residents due to the prolonged disruption of ground transportation amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in the State.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, JTCM highlighted the humanitarian and economic crisis confronting the people of Noney district as a result of frequent obstructions along National Highway-37 and connecting roads passing through Kangpokpi district.
According to the council, the prevailing law and order situation has rendered road travel highly unreliable, dangerous and often inaccessible, leaving residents cut off from essential services and opportunities.
The council expressed particular concern over the plight of critically ill patients requiring urgent medical attention, including dialysis, cancer treatment, obstetric care and trauma services.
It stated that ambulances are frequently delayed or turned back, preventing patients from reaching hospitals in Imphal on time and increasing the risk of avoidable fatalities.
JTCM further pointed out that the disruption of road connectivity has also adversely affected farmers, traders, government employees and students.
Appealing for urgent intervention, JTCM said the demand was not merely a matter of convenience but a necessary measure to safeguard the lives and welfare of the people of Noney district during the continuing conflict.
